10.  Pledge Drive is at 28K and about 35% participation.  Suggestions on increasing participation, more incentives, like Whacky Wednesday, or other fun free activities to get kids motivated and parents motivated.  We need a 100% participation, it is not too late to contribute. We need to raise at least $15K this year to continue programs next year. So please consider donating money to our school.  Remember check your employers if they will match your contributions.
11.  Beautification Report: Kathy and Jeff thanked all that participated, an amazing amount of work was done, this scale of work will not be needed for another 5 years hopefully.  Big thank you to Kathy and Jeff for coordinating and making it all happen.

PTA/FOB MEETING MINUTES FOR FEBRUARY 2012

Beethoven Street Elementary School PTA FOB Meeting Minutes

Tuesday February 7, 2012
Welcome and thank you by PTA president Kathy Vigil
Opening Pledge by FOB presidents, Dianna Tate and Jeff Manpearl
PTA Items:
1.  Minutes approved for Jan 2012, motion Ashley & second Donna Ayers

2.  Principal’s message, Dr. Ford was not available. Teacher’s message from Ms. Mills, and UTLA rep, that there continues to be the budget crisis, the State of CA owes billions of tax dollars to LAUSD.  On the budget table is the 6 days to be cut from this school year so to end even earlier this June. Please demand that our school not be cut anymore, please call our local district 3 board member Steve Zimmer - 213-241-6387 or email at steve.zimmer@lausd.net or mail a letter to 33 South Beaudry Ave, 24th floor, Los Angeles, CA 90017.  Other issues include the early start of the next school year in August instead of September.  Parents voiced this being a bad use of schools resources, it will cost over 800K to change calendars and implement change.  This is not good for the environment and energy bills for the school to operate on such hot days of the summer.   Parents need to make noise to be heard about our concerns, continue to voice through, telephone, email, fax to LAUSD board members.  There is information on the parent collaborative, by Bill Ring online.  Also being cut from the budget is the Adult Education as well as the Pre-K program SRLDP.  Attendance is very important, it costs about $33 for each student per day absent from school.  When students are absent, the school does not get funding. We lost over 71k last year from absentees.

3.  New Parent Orientation, previously know as Kinder Round up, Jo Jeffs- Thursday Feb 16th 2012.  Please come help set up, help parent register and donate breakfast items such as muffins or juice.  Please see Jo if you would like to help out; please spread the word to the neighboring community and pre-schools.
