If there are classroom collection containers, those are encouraged to be dumped into the bins by Room 28. The school needs the proceeds so parents, please do not empty the containers for personal recycling as families are donating to support the school.

TIP OF THE WEEK Who knew that drawing circles with a red pen relieves stress? Well it does! If you find your self in a situation and have a knack for doodling, chose red and choose circles.

YOU'VE BEEN STUNG Gloria Halfacre, you've been stung. As a leader of Beethoven's Girl Scout Troop 925, Gloria is a role model for our young girls. She coordinated the recent collection of 350 pairs(!!) of shoes to be sent to Soles4Souls for distribution to the Haitian people. Her efforts with the holiday boutique, recycling, and Relay For Life are so appreciated. Gloria's energy, enthusiasm and thoughtfulness have raised countless funds for the school and improved morale. Gloria, we appreciate your work and we thank you!

    Have a great week!

    Cheers, Elizabeth R. Palser

TIP OF THE WEEK Now who hasn't had hiccups? Here is a quick cure if you get the hiccups before you have something important to say--stick out your tongue as far as you can and with it extended inhale and exhale until the hiccups stop. This simple exercise stimulates the glottis (the opening between your vocal chords), allowing you to breathe more smoothly. Just try to do it privately or you'll get odd looks!

YOU'VE BEEN STUNG Ashley Halverson, you've been stung! Ashley has been involved in the fundraising efforts at the school as well as coordinating the Car Show. She attends the PTA/FOB meetings and is always offering her assistance in ways that she can help the school. There's a lot of work that Ashley does on her own, too, as she is constantly thoughtful in her ways to improve Beethoven. Ashley, we appreciate you and thank you for all that you do!

    Have a great week!

SAVE THE ARTS Many parents asked that I circulate this petition. Please consider supporting the cause as there is discussion to eliminate arts education in LAUSD schools. View the link for details: http://www.petitiononline.com/la4arts/petition.html

SPECIAL THANKS The holiday giving program is one of the reasons that we are so fortunate to be part of the Beethoven family! Thank you to all who donated food and toys to our needy families. Special thanks to Kathy Vigil for coordinating, to Linda Mechanic and Peach Tree Pottery and their friends for all their toy donations and to Mar Vista neighbor Allison Elder for her overwhelming contribution of food and toys! And not to forget our cub scouts--this effort could not have been done without the help of the scouts. Thank you to all as you made the holidays much happier for many families!

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS There will be a free electronic waste drop off at Walgrove Elementary School (1630 Walgrove Ave.) on SATURDAY, JANUARY 30, 9:00AM-3:00PM. Drop off electronics to be recycled and funds will go to the Walgrove's booster club.

TIP OF THE WEEK Want a little fresh air inside? While you're cooking a meal or just after, set a small pot of water on the stove and drop in a slice of lemon, a cinnamon stick, or a couple pinches of your favorite aromatic spice. Let the pot boil for several minutes, and the smell will permeate your kitchen/home with its fragrance.

YOU'VE BEEN STUNG Jennifer Manheim, you've been stung! Whenever there is a need for donations (waters or juice or cupcakes) or classroom deliveries, Jennifer comes to the rescue. She's provided refreshments for many occasions over the years. She has also been a good resource for information for party venues, printing services, etc. Thanks, Jennifer, for all you do to help our school. We appreciate you and thank you!

    Have a great week!

    Cheers, Elizabeth R. Palser
