HOLIDAY PROGRAM CDs ARE NOW AVAILABLE The CD of the holiday program is now available for $10. These are great keepsakes of your child’s performance. Forms are in the school office or respond to Gloria Halfacre @ Gloria@sipi.usc.edu if you would like one.

TRAVELING ENRICHMENT The Youth Development Program is having a culmination of their traveling enrichment program this FRIDAY, JUNE 4 at 4:30* in the auditorium. (Please double check the time (4:30-5:00) with your child and see the YDP flyers.) The last enrichment session was “Science” so the fun will include what the kids have been working on.

SRDLP CULMINATION The pre-school little ones are graduating on THURSDAY, JUNE 10 in ROOM 10. The two sessions are 8:30AM and 12:00PM.

HOMEWORK LAB Thank you to dedicated staff that has assisted with homework lab this year. The Homework Lab ends on THURSDAY JUNE 10.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE ASSEMBLY Please try and attend the JUNE 14 MONDAY morning assembly at 8:45AM honoring those with perfect attendance.

5th GRADE NEWS See details sent home with your 5th grader but here is a recap of end-of-year events:
    • The 5th Grade picnic is TUESDAY, JUNE 15 at 10:00AM.
    • 5th Grade culmination is 9:00AM on WED JUNE 16. Dresses for the girls (no strappy straps) and collar dress shirts (tie optional) and black pants and nice shoes for the boys. If possible, no sneakers or high heels (1˝+), please. Please ensure that your child gets to school on time so the procession can start as planned.
    • 5Th Grade dance is 12:00-2:37PM on WED JUNE 16 in the auditorium.
    • 5th graders vs. teachers in the annual softball game from 8:45AM-10:00AM in the big yard

4TH GRADE PARENTS ARE NEEDED Traditionally, the 4th grade parents help with the 5th grade culmination so the 5th grade parents can enjoy the ceremony. We need help decorating the auditorium the at 7:30AM on WED, JUNE 16. We also need help setting up the table for refreshments and need servers for refreshments (cake, coffee, drinks) after the ceremony. Refreshment setup starts at 8:00AM. Please respond to the Buzz if you can assist. We are hopeful to get 6-8 volunteers. All parents are welcome to assist!

KINDER END OF YEAR ACTIVITY All kindergarteners will be celebrating their end of year activity in the auditorium on THURSDAY JUNE 17 at 12:30PM.

SHORTENED SCHOOL YEAR The school year has been shortened by a week. The last day of school is FRIDAY JUNE 18, a minimum day ending at 12:37PM. Onsite YDP aftercare will be available.

SCHOOL RESUMES The 2010-2011 school year will be in session beginning MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 at 8:08AM (but we don’t have to think about that now.)

DO NOT PARK IN BUS ZONES OR CROSS WALKS! When you park in a bus zone or a cross walk, you are putting our students’ safety at risk. We are asking parents to let a school employee know when a car is parked in restricted areas. It will take a community to solve this problem. Parking patrols are actively ticketing and that is a small price to pay to ensure the safety of our children. Please use our valet program as it is free. It gets congested towards the end of school with lots of families attending activites so especially important to park in avaiable areas.

MULCH Thank you to all who helped and especially the students that assisted spreading mulch around the trees along the back fence of the large playground. This will keep our trees happy over the summer months.

HARVEST OF THE MONTH Now that you had your strawberry fix last month, in June, the Harvest of the Month is corn! Try some fresh on the cob!

SMART BOARD CONTEST It takes a little more time for an entry, but with your participation, we may be able to get another smart board this way: http://us.smartloveoflearning.com/

PLEDGE DRIVE FOR 2010-2011 We are preparing for the 2010-2011 school year. Fundraising efforts will include a FOB-sponsored Pledge Drive to raise funds for the entire school. We are looking for two parent volunteers per grade to brainstorm and spare a few hours over the next few weeks. If interested in this effort, please contact Galia at Galia@GaliaLinn.com with your contact information so you can be notified about upcoming meetings.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES For the 2010-2011 school year, families will be asked to donate school supplies. Teachers generally use their own money to purchase classroom supplies so we are encouraging all Beethoven families to donate so every student is prepared as they enter the classroom next year. Please respond to the information and envelopes distributed to grades K-4th.

TIP OF THE WEEK With summer approaching, it is a great time to continue getting to know your child. Prepare for a happy landing at the end of the day. Create a predictable ritual such as 10–20 minutes listening to your child talk about his/her day—before you check messages, read the mail, or begin dinner. That way you are fully present to listen, and your child has a touchstone he/she can count on between his day away and his time at home.

YOU'VE BEEN STUNG You have all been stung! As the school year winds down, I wanted to thank all of you for allowing me the honor and opportunity to communicate school news to all Beethoven families and members of the community. I have enjoyed getting to know many of you and I am grateful for your comments, input, support and patience throughout the years. My weeks are coming to an end as my son will graduate this year. The Beethoven community has been part of our family and I could not have asked for a more wonderful group of friends.
