PTA/FOB MEETING MINUTES

May 11, 2010

Welcomes by FOB Co-Chairs – Mark and Andrea Andrews

Opening Pledge by PTA President, Jeanna Kienzle

PTA approved minutes from last meeting.

PTA Treasurer’s Report: differs slightly from balance last reported. $3391.78 beginning balance. Deposited coffee sales of $80.09, less bank charge of $3.00, the ending balance is $3468.87.

Expected donations: 5th grade and Martha Foley Scholarship @ $200 each.

Jeanna suggests the idea for PTA to buy staff birthday cards ~ to cost around $50. Approved.

June 3rd ~ student body puts on Staff Lunch in the auditorium. Volunteers needed. Country theme. Some staff in attendance so gifts were not discussed.

Joanna Jeffs discusses that a 2nd grade family is in need ~ a child hospitalized with a busted appendix. Better today but mom could use help with food/groceries. There is a basket in the office to contribute anything: toys, cards, activities for the sick child.

Monday morning coffee needs new parent to help run as Avery has moved. It brings in $75-80 per month. Wen-chia Parker volunteered.

Nadia (via Alicia) has collected all of the lost and found items and will wash and hang them on the baseball fence at assembly in hopes of finding their rightful owners. If not claimed they will be donated. Hangers needed.
Kathy Vigil will take on that task next year.

Alicia discussed that any food sales fundraisers using held after school should not use the cafeteria electrical outlets as it messes up the milk temperature. Advised to use the exterior or auditorium outlets. And that communication with cafeteria manager Lupe is important.

2010-2011 Pledge Drive ~ Galia Linn explained how the Beethoven families has improved the school over the years and that the current kinder families would like to keep that going and implement an annual pledge drive similar to neighborhood schools. Revisited the success of the Kinder TA drive and how we can apply those ideas to an annual pledge drive. The drive will ask parents to contribute $365 with the idea being ~ one dollar per day to support your child’s school. A handout was provided with details for the drive and our estimated amounts needed to raise. Key pledge drive plan points discussed:
*Room Parents send emails.
*Have a display with a teddy bear with an empty belly that we fill as the pledge money is raised.
*Set up a pay pal account ~ try to get the fee reduced since it’s a fundraiser.
*Set up monthly contribution option.
Andrea mentioned that one of the Spanish families suggested they be asked by the 15th of the month so it doesn’t conflict with rent, etc and asked if the $1 per day included weekends.
Notwithstanding any pledge drive success ~ FOB will continue to hold various events and need chairs for those. Any opposition? None. Any questions?
Staci Lampkin questioned some of the pledge drive commitments ~ Donna Ayers and Galia Linn explained that those items are estimated and could change. Mark Andrews explained that items get cut that could be funded from the different line items.
On track to raise more money than in prior years but we’ll still need more to fund all of the current needs. Per handout ~ total current annual needs total $26,500.
Additional 2010-2011 needs total $45,500.
Idea is to start the pledge drive now ~ will have it in place by the next PTA/FOB meeting.

LA Conservation Corps Green 4 Green Event ~ Program Director Teague Weybright explained the LACC program and reviewed examples of projects they have brought to Beethoven in prior years as well as neighboring schools. He explained the DWP Trees for Green LA program and the potential for fundraising for the school. The idea is to find the right tree for the right spots so they offer a tree adoption program. He asked that we disseminate the applications to parents ~ for every tree that is adopted locally ~ money will go to the school:
0-49 trees ~ $0 per tree
50-100 trees ~ $1 per tree
101-200 ~ $2 per tree
201-250 ~ $2.50 per tree
251+ ~ $3.00 per tree with a $1,500 maximum
Sample flyer was provided. He asked that interest is expressed since they’ve done so much for the school.
