BREAKING NEWS... The Fitness Challenge is this FRIDAY, MAY 21! We’d like every Beethoven child to be an active participant in this year’s fitness challenge! Flyers were sent home this week so please check your child’s folder. The Fitness Challenge encourages students to exercise around an obstacle course. Students are sponsored by families and friends so this is a school fund raiser. Each grade has a time slot so we are looking for volunteers to shepherd the children around the obstacle course. Please contact Fitness Challenge Coordinator Joanna Woods @ Joanna.Woods@hbo.com if you can volunteer at any of these times.

PLEDGE DRIVE FOR 2010-2011 We are preparing for the 2010-2011 school year. Fundraising efforts will include a FOB-sponsored Pledge Drive to raise funds for the entire school. We are looking for two parent volunteers per grade to brainstorm and spare a few hours over the next few weeks. If interested in this effort, please contact Galia at Galia@GaliaLinn.com with your contact information so you can be notified about upcoming meetings.
FAMILY IN NEED Thank you for the thoughts and help associated with the second grader who was ill and in the hospital. She is now at home recuperating. If you would like to help with meal rotation, please contact Joanna Jeffs @ joannajeffs2005@gmail.com and please keep this family in your thoughts.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON TREAT SALES Weather permitting, this Friday and continuing on Fridays, the 5th grade parents will be selling treats for $1.00-$2.00 after school by the auditorium so please stop by and support the 5th grade. MULCH Mulch for the trees on campus has been delivered! We could use a group of parents with shovels to spread the mulch. The schedule depends on the volunteer’s availability. TIP OF THE WEEK Some of the greenest cleaners are the ones you make yourself. Here are some sample recipes for simple, effective cleaners:
• Drain Cleaner: Pour a half-cup of baking soda down the sink and add at least a cup of vinegar. Cover the drain and wait a few minutes, then rinse with a mixture of boiling water and salt.
• Window Cleaner: Mix two ounces of vinegar with a quart of water in a spray bottle.
• Silver Polish: Put a sheet of aluminum foil into a plastic or glass bowl. Sprinkle the foil with salt and baking soda and fill the bowl with warm water. Soak your silver in the bowl and tarnish migrates to the foil. Dry and buff.
• Brass Cleaner: Cut a lemon in half, sprinkle it with salt and rub the lemon on the metal. Buff with a cloth.
• Rust Remover: Use vinegar to remove rust on nuts and bolts and other mineral deposits such as calcium deposits
YOU'VE BEEN STUNG Robin Shindle, you’ve been stung! Robin can be found volunteering at all the fundraising events during the school year. She is heavily involved in the 5th grade fundraisers. She cooks, serves and doesn’t take much time to rest. She is also a Cub Scout Den Leader and provides guidance, leadership and plans some spectacular outings for the scouts. Robin, we appreciate all your support and help during the school year. You will be missed next year! Thank you!
Have a great week!
