Celebrate Earth Day by cleaning out that old stuff piled up in the garage!

SILENT AUCTION COMING TO TOWN Mark your calendars for SATURDAY, MAY 1, 2010, 6:00PM-10:00PM, for the Silent Auction/Raffle/Bingo/Food/Drinks/Music evening for adults at the Santa Monica Women's Club. We are soliciting donations from businesses and Beethoven families and you will receive a letter in your child’s folder that has the details. Donations are tax deductible.

SILENT AUCTION BASKETS NEEDED! The 5th grade parents are coordinating the baskets for this year's Silent Auction. Each grade will be making a themed basket and we are asking each grade's room parents to coordinate donations for that grade's basket. You can place a box in the classroom for collections and we would like all donations collected by FRIDAY, APRIL 23. Listed below are the basket themes for each grade and we leave it up to each grade to assembly and wrap the basket and suggest a price. In previous years, these baskets were good bidding items and we expect no less this year! So, please consider the theme when you give a donation. Some baskets include gift cards so if you are unable to donate an item, a cash donation or gift card is also nice.

Kinder: beach
1st: road trip
2nd: education
3rd: bath
4th: kitchen
5th: entertainment

If a grade is unable to assemble their basket, no problem, just let me know and the 5th grade parents will package the baskets for the auction.

CLOTHES FOR THE NURSE If you have gently used shorts or shirts, boy or girl, please drop your donation labeled "Nurse" to the office. Also, we are collecting new under garments and socks. These items will be put to good use for those students who have accidents and parents aren't readily available to bring a change of clothes.

CANS FOR A CURE Beethoven will be organizing a team for the May 2010 Revlon Run/Walk for Women's Cancers. Please donate your recyclable cans and bottles to the bin in front of Room 28 and proceeds help raise funds for the cause and to sponsor the Beethoven team. We count on these proceeds so parents; please do not empty the containers for personal recycling.

ART SUPPLIES NEEDED Art supply donations are requested for the APS Arts program with Ms. Deborah who will be coming in April. Right now students K-3rd grades are working in Drama with Mr. Keene in the APS Arts program. Art supplies are still needed. This week, we are collecting pink gum erasers and glue sticks. If you can donate these items, please label, "APS Arts" and drop off in the school office. Thank you!

LOST AND FOUND If your child went to school with a jacket or sweatshirt and came home without one, please check the lost and found. Please label your child's belongings so items can be returned promptly if identified. All leftover items will be donated to charity the week of spring break.

COFFEE CARDS! Now, you can get your weekly coffee fix at the assembly without carrying money! Just purchase a coffee card for $5 on sale at the coffee cart near Room 26.

MARCH VALET Attention all 5th grade families, March is the last month that you will need to do valet service! Parents, choose two valet days or show up at 7:30AM by the auditorium as we ALWAYS need help and/or please return the valet slips sent home with your child that alerts you of your designated mornings.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION Take a look in your cupboards and collect Box Tops; each class is collecting them. Please place box tops in an envelope labelled 'Box Tops' and your child's name and classroom. They can be returned to your teacher or placed in the FOB mailbox. I will collect them on a weekly basis. The class with the most box tops wins a to-be-determined prize!

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS

AID TO LOCAL FAMILY A house fire destroyed a local family a few weeks ago and friends and neighbors are rallying to support the family during this difficult time. Many Beethoven families have asked how they can help. Updates have been made to the http://www.FriendsOfLuna.com page with details and donations can be made via PayPal. A live auction benefiting the family will be held on SATURDAY, MARCH 27. The Meier Street Neighbors are seeking donations from local businesses, service providers, and artisans for auction items, raffle prizes, and other fundraising purposes. They are particularly looking for a food truck or two that would park nearby and donate part of their proceeds on the fundraiser day. Donations for the auction and garage sale should be made through Jennifer Hemsley @jennifer_hemsley@yahoo.com, and anyone who wants to donate food or entertainment services can contact Elizabeth Oakes @marryme@marriagetogo.com. Thanks to everyone who has offered assistance and
good thoughts to this family.

TIP OF THE WEEK Raw vegetables, such as celery and carrots, are not just healthy to eat but they also can act like detergent foods that clean your teeth, helping remove topical stains, according to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. So, you have my permission to make noise and chomp away!

YOU'VE BEEN STUNG Patty Segovia, you’ve been stung! Patty has been a presence at the school for years and not only does she assist in the classrooms but she is very involved in cub scouts as well and helps plan the field trips. Patty’s delightful personality and gracious offerings of her time really set a terrific example. We appreciate all that you do to support the school, Patty, and we thank you!

Have a great week!

Cheers, Elizabeth R. Palser
