PRE-K PROGRAM We have learned that the district has decided to cut the SLRDP Pre-K program at Beethoven for next year, but they are willing to hear the pleas of Beethoven parents who want to keep this wonderful program. Many of our elementary students benefited from the program. Please consider voicing your support to the District 3 contact, Patricia Yeldel @ 310-253-7833 or write 333 S. Beaudry Ave, Los Angeles CA 90017.

CANS FOR A CURE Beethoven will be organizing a team for the May 2010 Revlon Run/Walk for Women's Cancers. Our aluminum can/plastic bottle drive is underway and proceeds help raise funds for the cause and to sponsor the Beethoven team. Please donate your recyclable cans and bottles to the bin in front of Room 28. We count on these proceeds so parents, please do not empty the containers for personal recycling as families are donating to support the cause.

ART SUPPLIES NEEDED Supplies and donations are requested for the PS Arts Program. This week, we are collecting rolls of double weight aluminum foil, 25 x 12 inches, and construction paper (assorted colors.) If you can donate these items, please label, 'PS Arts' and drop off in the school office. Thank you!

INTERESTED IN LEARNING MANDARIN? As part of our afterschool enrichment offerings, we are considering teaching a Mandarin Chinese class but wanted to get a sense of interest. Classes are geared toward elementary school age children and would be taught at Beethoven. If you have interest, please send an email to Jana Montgomery janamarie@claudiosantini.com so she can get a sense if there is enough interest for a spring class.

LOST AND FOUND If your child went to school with a jacket or sweatshirt and came home without one, please check the lost and found. Please label your child's belongings so items can be returned promptly if identified. All leftover items will be donated to charity the week of spring break.

COFFEE CARDS! Now, you can get your weekly coffee fix at the assembly without carrying money! Just purchase a coffee card for $5 on sale at the coffee cart near room 26.

MARCH VALET Attention all 5th grade families, March is the last month that you will need to do valet service! Room parents will contact parents with the schedule. Check your calendars now with your availability.

SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS If you have a business or have friends or relatives who have a business or service and would like to donate to Beethoven's Silent Auction in May, please let Beethoven's Donation Coordinator, Kathy Vigil, katkitti@aol.com know. She will provide the appropriate paperwork and tax-exempt ID information.

SCHOOL CENTS PROGRAM Don't forget there are DOUBLE POINTS in February from these stores: BCBG, Banana Republic, Bath & Body Works, GapKids at the Westside Pavilion.

Please place box tops in an envelope labelled 'Box Tops' and your child's name and classroom. They can be returned to your teacher or placed in the FOB mailbox. I will collect them on a weekly basis. The class with the most box tops wins a to-be-determined prize!

NO PARKING IN BUS LANE Please do not park in the areas designated for Bus Parking. If you continue to park in that area on Victoria Ave, you may receive a citation. Thank you for your assistance by parking elsewhere to drop off your child/ren.

WE LOVE BEETHOVEN CHILDREN SO PLEASE DO ALL OF US A FAVOR A reminder not to drive and use your cell phone or text while driving. Keep your children's safety in mind. If you or your child are riding bikes or have your child on your bike, please ensure that that your child is wearing a helmet. There have been near misses and some of us have witnessed unfortunate and preventable situation if drivers focused on driving. The children of Beethoven thank ever driver and bike rider who make this a priority.

TIP OF THE WEEK WARM UP WITHOUT HEAT Warming your home doesn't have to involve turning up the thermostat. Try some décor updates to make your home feel warmer: Bring out throws or blankets in warm tones, stack books and rearrange your furniture to encourage closeness for snuggling and good reading time.

YOU'VE BEEN STUNG Donna Ayers, you've been stung! Due to Donna's incredible efforts in writing a grant in a very short turnaround time, Beethoven has been awarded a $10,000 beautification grant!
Donna has also been instrumental in streamlining the budget process for the the booster club and can be found volunteering at all the school events. Donna, we apprecaite everything that you do for the school and we thank you!

    Have a great week!

    Cheers, Elizabeth R. Palser
