RELAY FOR LIFE, JOIN OUR TEAM! Join Team Beethoven Bears at the 2nd Annual Battle of the Schools for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Culver City (including the communities of Marina del Rey, Mar Vista, Palms & Venice). The event is from 9:00AM on MAY 15 to 9:00AM on MAY 16 at Culver City High School. This is a family event and all are welcome. Come walk for our team for as little as a half hour. You can register at relayforlife.org/culvercityca and join the Beethoven Bears. For more information, contact Gloria Halfacre at gloria@sipi.usc.edu or 310.739.7107. Help the fight against cancer.

SWEETS FROM OUR SWEETS It's Girl Scout Cookie time and there is a new cookie! "Thank You Berry Munch" is a new sugar cookie with Ocean Spray Cranberries, white chocolate chips and rice krispies. It is yummy. Boxes are still only $4 a box. There are Girl Scouts in every classroom, so order yours today. If you do not know any scouts, you can also place your orders with Gloria Halfacre (gloria@sipi.usc.edu or 310.739.7107) and the girls will still get credit.

NO SUGAR FOR YOU? Don't eat cookies? No problem! How about donating some Girl Scout Cookies to the LA Food Bank or Military Troops in the US and overseas? This is our Gift of Caring program. See Gloria for details.

MORE ITEMS FOR RECYLCING Don't forget we are still collecting used toner and cell phones for recycling. No remanufactured toner please. Items can be dropped off at the school office. See the qualifying list at http://www.fundingfactory.com/admin/participant/qualifying_items.aspx.

RECYCLING Drop off your aluminum cans and plastic bottles (#1 and #2) in the big bin in front of Room 28. We do not have drop off containers in the main buildings because of ants. If there are classroom collection containers, those are encouraged to be dumped into the bins by Room 28. The school needs the proceeds so parents, please do not empty the containers for personal recycling as families are donating to support the school.

GET STAMPED! WESTSIDE PAVILION purchases are redeemed for points for our school. Shop now and log your receipts in January for double points. Points are redeemed for gift cards and we use them for attendance awards! Can't get to the mall, drop off receipts in the FOB mailbox in the office addressed to Nadia and she will get receipts stamped and returned to you.

IDEAS? If you have ideas for fundraising or school improvements or just want to share your opinion, please direct your queries to the FOB Presidents, Andrea and Mark Andrews. They are most familiar with school protocol. Also, feel free to leave a note for them in the FOB mailbox.

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS There will be a free electronic waste drop off at Walgrove Elementary School (1630 Walgrove Ave.) on SATURDAY, JANUARY 30, 9:00AM-3:00PM. Drop off electronics to be recycled and funds will go to the Walgrove's booster club.

TIP OF THE WEEK Now who hasn't had hiccups? Here is a quick cure if you get the hiccups before you have something important to say--stick out your tongue as far as you can and with it extended inhale and exhale until the hiccups stop. This simple exercise stimulates the glottis (the opening between your vocal chords), allowing you to breathe more smoothly. Just try to do it privately or you'll get odd looks!

YOU'VE BEEN STUNG Ashley Halverson, you've been stung! Ashley has been involved in the fundraising efforts at the school as well as coordinating the Car Show. She attends the PTA/FOB meetings and is always offering her assistance in ways that she can help the school. There's a lot of work that Ashley does on her own, too, as she is constantly thoughtful in her ways to improve Beethoven. Ashley, we appreciate you and thank you for all that you do!

Have a great week!

Cheers, Elizabeth R. Palser
