WELCOME 2010 FROM THE BEETHOVEN BUZZ

BREAKING NEWS...SCHOOL STARTS BRIGHT AND EARLY TOMORROW MORNING, JANUARY 11. All families, please join us for the first assembly of the new year. Bring some change and grab a cup of coffee ($1.00)from the java cart and hear about all the upcoming events!

FOB/PTA MEETING Woo hoo, it is the big PTA/FOB meeting! Show up at 6:30PM on TUES, JANUARY 12 in the Library for the first PTA/FOB meeting of the year. We hope your new year resolutions include participating more at your child's school. We need all parents to help out during the year whether it is at school events, in the classrooms, donations or providing services. If you have not been able to attend the PTA/FOB meetings, know that you have been missed. We are looking forward to a full house at Tuesday's meeting!

JANUARY IS VALET MONTH FOR 2ND GRADE PARENTS All 2nd grade families are asked to staff the morning valet in January. Your help allows students to get onto campus safely. You can even drop by the auditorium (7:30-8:10AM) as help is always needed. Parents, DO NOT PARK IN THE VALET AREA (even for a moment) as your car will be ticketed! Parking patrol has been active in the area. Please note that there are telephone poles blocking the valet area. We are asking the city to move them down the street. If they are not moved by Monday morning, please be careful with children exiting the car or drop your child off further down the street (but remember not to block the intersection or the teacher's parking lot entrance.)

MARK YOUR CALENDARS There will be no school on MONDAY, JANUARY 18 in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Please make child care arrangements as there is no aftercare. I get several requests for child care outreach. If you are a child care provider or a parent and are able to watch another child for a working parent on Monday, please respond to the Buzz and I will relay the information.

WATER PLEASE Please remember to send along water with your child each day (especially upper grades as they run each morning.) Teachers appreciate water donations whether large bottles (preferred as many students carry their own containters and they can get filled in class) or a case of water. As the weather warms, it is important to make daily water a priority for your child.

RECYCLING Drop off your aluminum cans and plastic bottles (#1 and #2) in the big bin in front of Room 28. Make a habit of bringing your items on Mondays while you are on campus for the assembly. We do not have dropoff containers in the main buildings because of ants. If there are classroom collection containers, those are encouraged to be dumped into the bins by Room 28. The school needs the proceeds so parents, please do not empty the containers for personal recycling as families are donating to support the school. Thank you!

SANTA PHOTOS AVAILABLE If you saw Santa at Beethoven, check out this link to order photos: http://partybyfive.smugmug.com/Santa-Sightings-at-Beethoven/2nd-Annual-Santa-Sighting-at/10610814_gLCFh#737851698_kkFSk

GET STAMPED! WESTSIDE PAVILION purchases are redeemed for points for our school. Shop now and log your receipts in January for double points. Points are redeemed for gift cards and we use them for attendance awards!

COPIES AT SCHOOL Parents, if you need to make copies at school, please check with the main office about the availability of the copier before use. There is a copier queue that takes precedent and you may be eferred to the copier in the Parent Center.

CUB SCOUTS The Webelos Den meeting has been moved to SAT JANUARY 30 and a hike is planned. Details forthcoming. There will NOT be a meeting on JANUARY 16.

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS There will be a free electronic waste drop off at Walgrove Elementary School (1630 Walgrove Ave.) on SATURDAY, JANUARY 30, 9:00AM-3:00PM. Drop off electronics to be recycled and funds willl go to the Walgrove's booster club.

TIP OF THE WEEK Multi-tasking is as easy as watching TV and sorting a junk or clothes drawer. During commercials, just bring a drawer to your lap and sort the contents into the keep, toss, donate or sell piles. Then put back the keepers into the drawer and keep it tidy!

YOU'VE BEEN STUNG A huge thanks goes to Kristin Duerr for her inspiration, direction, choreography and production of the Winter Program. Kristin has single-handedly planned the program from inception to grand finale carefully choosing a theme that appeals to all families. She enlisted the help of parents, students, and teachers to help with the sets, sound, music, artwork, and brochures. Kudos to every child who participated from the acting to the set design to the stage hands to the musicians-- all were a terrific blend of Beethoven talent. Parents, you should be very proud of your child as were we! Thank you to Kristin for your vision and making this a play to remember. Your dedication is so appreciated and hats off to you! (CDs of the production are available for $10 and forms are available in the school office.)

Welcome back, Beethoven families, welcome back!
    Cheers, Elizabeth R. Palser

PS There will be a Buzz issue for the week of January 11 so if anyone has anything to include, please email me or respond to the Buzz with an update.
